If you are a new student joining us at the International Study Centre, you may have some questions about what it's like to live and study in the UK.

We have put together some pre-arrival information with essential tasks to complete. This will help you plan your journey and make the most of your student experience once you arrive.

Here to support you

From visa application through to booking accommodation, you’ll be fully supported by our dedicated team every step of the way. We’ll ensure that you have all the information and support you need ahead of your move to the UK. We will provide you with information to prepare you for life in the UK; including information about what to pack, planning for your arrival, and how to make the most of your time at the Centre or College.

If you are enrolled on our Prepare for Success programme, you will receive guidance on what you need to do to get ready for your departure to the UK, or to start your studies online from your home country.

Prepare for success

Getting ready to study a pathway with us in September? We’ve developed a virtual preparation programme to help introduce you to all the aspects you’ll need to know about the UK education system. This completely free course will cover everything from new academic structures, cultural insights, to understanding your personal learning outcomes.

If you want to benefit from this head start to your academic journey, confirm your place (for either undergraduate or postgraduate pathways) with us to receive your email invitation to the course. All you need to do is pay your confirmation fee and the first £6000 of your tuition fees to benefit from:

  • Valuable support in preparation for starting your pathway
  • The confidence to become an independent and effective learner
  • A welcoming international community with social meet-ups of fellow students
  •  A safe space to practice your English and meet your classmates and teachers
  • Access to high-quality academic and English language materials
  •  Personalised feedback from your tutors right at the start of your education journey

Pre-arrival checklist

Confirm your offer

Pay your fees to confirm your offer. You can then be issued with a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS).

Arrange your visa

You can apply for your UK study visa once we have issued you with your CAS. Contact us if you have any questions.

Choose your accommodation

See your accommodation options and confirm where you would like to live in advance.

Book your travel to the UK

You can book your travel to the UK when you receive your visa. The closest London airport to the campus is Heathrow Airport, an hour away by train.

Organise your insurance

It is essential that all international students have health, medical and personal insurance. Find out more about StudyCare Insurance Plus.

Your first week and settling in

During your first week at the International Study Centre we organise induction events and activities to help you settle in.

Induction programme

The induction programme is an important and helpful introduction to living and studying in the UK. It will give you a complete overview of the UK, the University, and the International Study Centre. You will also:

  • Learn how your academic programme works
  • Meet fellow students on your course
  • Go on a campus tour
  • Find out how to open a UK bank account
  • Learn what you need to do to progress to Royal Holloway.

First day of term is Monday 6 January 2020. You should arrive at the International Study Centre at 10am ready to start your Induction Programme.
