International Year One
A thorough preparation for your higher education at Royal Holloway
The International Year One is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree and will prepare you to seamlessly transition into the second year of your chosen degree course at Royal Holloway. Specifically designed for international students, this two-semester programme focuses on introducing you to the key concepts of your chosen field of study, while also improving your spoken and academic English.
This programme is open to all students who have completed local high school education. If you are looking to study a degree abroad and would like to be fully immersed in the university life and culture beforehand, the International Year One is here to help.
There is an additional term of English Language Preparation available for students who do not meet the English language requirements for this programme. The English Language Preparation will run from September 2021 for the January 2022 intake. Check our entry requirements for more information.

Upon completion of your International Year One, you should be prepared with the academic, English language and social skills to successfully enter the second year of your undergraduate degree and make the most of your education at Royal Holloway. These skills include:

Progress to Royal Holloway
After completing one of our four pathways and successfully meeting the progression requirements for your chosen degree, you will have the opportunity to progress to the second year of undergraduate study at Royal Holloway.
